In THE WEDDING SINGER, 1985 rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer. He's the life of the party, until his own fiance` leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. When he meets an admiring young waitress, it's love at first sight. Only trouble is, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.

With a score that pays loving homage to the pop songs of the 1980's, THE WEDDING SINGER takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room.

The event will feature a dinner at the Fort Schuyler Club followed by a screening of The Sound of Music and a dessert reception at the Stanley Theatre immediately after the film.

WCNY began a "Save PBS in Utica" campaign in December to raise $80,000 needed to replace the transmitter equipment in Utica. Several Mohawk Valley viewers who watch WCNY's free programming "over-the-air" (and not on cable) have difficulty receiving the signal. WCNY's new digital television translator will allow viewers in Utica to receive a digital television signal from WCNY, increasing the number of WCNY program offerings as well as the overall quality of the signal. The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. recently awarded a grant of $25,000 to this project. All proceeds from the Dinner and a Movie event will benefit the replacement of transmitter equipment in Utica.

The pre-film dinner at the Fort Schuyler Club will feature Austrian cuisine and after the film, diners can sample Austrian desserts provided by a Moveable feast by O'Conners with a reception at the Stanley Theatre. Tickets for Dinner and a Movie can be purchased at WCNY prior to the event and tickets for the film can also be purchased at the Stanley Theatre until the day of the event.

Ticket prices are $20 for the film and dessert, $95 for the dinner, film, and dessert reception, and $150 for admittance for two to the dinner, film, and dessert reception.
It's April, 2010 and the city of Utica is anxious to welcome the world famous Bezzler/Fezzler traveling Renaissance Faire. Utica was extremely fortunate to be able to book this popular and entertaining touring company.

The Faire is the brain child of the famous director Marion Fezzler who organized and bankrolled the entire project. Recently Marion brought in a partner, Mr. Martin Bezzler to assist with the day to day operation of the business. Martin not only is a retired corporate executive but also a fine amateur actor in his own right, will be playing the roll of King Waldorf.

Another relative new comer to the show is Dixie Whistler playing the "Cinderella" role of Molly Fetchit the over worked and under appreciated Scullery Maid.

Our Queen is played by the little known actress Shelly Blackhand. She has been getting rave reviews since she broke into the business out of nowhere.

Prince Kimball is adeptly played by Mr. Andrew Defresne, a superb touring actor who has turned down more traditional acting offers in New York and California.

The Prioress, Mother Tucker, is played by a wonderful character actress, Sally Keelow, who at one time was actually a high school teacher.

You'll enjoy the antics of our Jester, the hilariously funny comic Sven Gunderssen, Sven was voted the funniest man alive in Minnesota for the last five years.

The charming and "very proper" Queen Mum is expertly played by Beatrix LaRue. Beatrix describes herself as a people person having spent her entire career in the service industry.

The shows songstress is Marie Pilfaring who show cases her vocal talent as the troubadour Lady Nightingale.

The cast of Renaissance Faire is rounded out by 30 more of the greatest actors that you've never heard of!

Prolific funny man, actor, author, and stand-up comedian/ranter LEWIS BLACK will be live onstage as part of his IN GOD WE RUST tour at The Stanley, Utica 8pm Friday June 11, 2010.

He is the author of pithy comments such as "Republicans are a party with bad ideas and Democrats are a party with no ideas." He describes his comedy as "being on the Titanic every single day and being the only person who knows what is going to happen."

Lewis' live performances provide a cathartic release of anger and disillusionment for his audience. Lewis yells so they don't have to. He is a passionate performer who is a more pissed-off optimist than mean-spirited curmudgeon. Lewis is the rare comic who can cause an audience to laugh themselves into incontinence while making compelling points about the absurdity of our world.

LEWIS BLACK came into national prominence in his appearances on THE DAILY SHOW in 1996 after settling in New York City and working as a playwright and with other playwrights at the West Bank Cafe.

His appearances on THE DAILY SHOW led to four specials on Comedy Central. In 2001, he won the Best Male Stand-Up at the American Comedy Awards. He has also produced six comedy CD albums, including the 2007 Grammy-Award winning The Carnegie Hall Performance.

LEWIS BLACK has also written two best-selling books, Nothing Sacred and Me of Little Faith, and has appeared in the movies Accepted and Unaccompanied Minors.

He also is actively involved in many charities, including the 52nd Street Project, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Brady Center to End Violence.

"We are so fortunate to land this June 11 date for LEWIS BLACK," says John Faust, Stanley Theatre Manager. "He performs over 200 sold-out dates world wide, and this date just fits in with his schedule. We have been working for some time to get LEWIS BLACK at The Stanley at the request of his many fans."
Tickets, priced from $30 to $60, go on sale Monday March 15 at The Stanley, 724-4000, online at www.StanleyTIX.com and ticketmaster 1 800 / 745-3000.
